A cruise ship carrying 206 individuals has run aground in a distant location in jap Greenland and was not instantly in a position to free itself, the Danish army’s Joint Arctic Command (JAC) stated on Tuesday.
The Ocean Explorer luxurious cruise vessel ran aground on Monday in Alpefjord in a nationwide park some 1,400 km (870 miles) northeast of Greenland’s capital Nuuk, the JAC stated in an announcement.
There had been no stories of accidents and there was no rapid danger of hurt to these on board nor to the setting, it added.
“A cruise ship in trouble in the national park is obviously a worry. The nearest help is far away, our units are far away, and the weather can be very unfavourable,” the JAC head of operations, Commander Brian Jensen, added.
“However, in this specific situation, we do not see any immediate danger to human life or the environment, which is reassuring,” he stated.
The JAC stated its nearest unit was an inspection vessel positioned some 1,200 nautical miles away on the time of the incident, that means it may attain the grounded ship Friday morning native time on the earliest.
The Arctic command stated it had requested a cruise ship positioned nearer to the Ocean Explorer to remain within the space in order that it could be capable of help in case the scenario modifications.
