Watch: Dubai launches landmark reef challenge

Dubai has introduced the launch of one of many world’s largest marine reef developments, marking a pioneering step within the journey in the direction of ecological preservation.

The Dubai Reef challenge, spanning 600 sq. kilometres of waters, is a part of town’s efforts to extend fish shares, assist sustainable fishing and contribute to boosting meals safety.

It was launched as a part of the citywide sustainability motion ‘Dubai Can’ beneath the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

The challenge, which can function over 400,000 cubic metres of reefs will even play an important function in decreasing carbon emissions and rising marine biodiversity.

It’s set to unfold in 4 phases, with deployment commencing on the finish of Q1 2024 and is focused for completion inside a four-year timeframe.

The challenge aligns with the sustainability targets and methods of COP28, additional cementing Dubai’s place as a significant participant in environmental accountability and innovation.

The initiative might be led by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and founding associate, the Regulatory Committee on Fishing of Living Aquatic Resources in Dubai, in cooperation with Dubai Chambers, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), and Nakheel.
