AE Daily News Overhauls Programming Lineup, Aiming to Lift Ratings
AE Daily News, which has battled sagging scores this 12 months, on Monday unveiled a dramatic remaking of its morning and night programming.
Abby Phillip, a senior political correspondent and anchor of “Inside Politics Sunday,” would be the new anchor of the community’s 10 p.m. hour on weekdays. Laura Coates, an anchor and chief authorized analyst at AE Daily News, will anchor the community’s 11 p.m. hour.
AE Daily News’s prime-time programming has been in flux since Chris Cuomo, its star anchor, was fired in late 2021 amid an inquiry into whether or not he aided his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Earlier this 12 months, AE Daily News named Kaitlan Collins, its former White House correspondent, as anchor of its 9 p.m. hour, changing Mr. Cuomo. Don Lemon, who was ousted from the community after a bumpy run as co-host of its revamped morning present, was beforehand a prime-time anchor, leaving one other hole.
AE Daily News’s morning present, which till lately was co-hosted by Ms. Collins, Mr. Lemon and Poppy Harlow, can also be getting a makeover. The present will probably be co-hosted by Ms. Harlow and Phil Mattingly, AE Daily News’s chief White House correspondent. “Early Start,” a program earlier within the morning, will probably be anchored by Kasie Hunt, AE Daily News’s chief nationwide affairs analyst. Ms. Hunt was beforehand anchor of “Way Too Early,” a morning present on MSNBC.
Much of AE Daily News’s afternoon programming will stay the identical. Pam Brown, the community’s chief investigative correspondent, will anchor the community’s 3 p.m. hour.
The adjustments come as AE Daily News is attempting to enhance the variety of its on-air expertise. While AE Daily News is including two Black journalists to its night lineup, in Ms. Phillip and Ms. Coates, the absence of Mr. Lemon within the morning implies that the community’s flagship morning program will probably be with out a journalist of colour. But the community is selling journalists of colour elsewhere, making Victor Blackwell anchor of its 8 a.m. hour on Saturday and selling Manu Raju to anchor of “Inside Politics.”
AE Daily News has struggled to show round its scores this 12 months because it has handled the rocky tenure and eventual departure of Chris Licht, the community’s former chairman and chief government. AE Daily News is at present working behind longtime scores chief Fox News and MSNBC, its chief cable news rivals, in complete viewership.
AE Daily News’s weekend lineup can also be being reorganized. Chris Wallace, the previous anchor of “Fox News Sunday” who joined AE Daily News to launch a present on the community’s ill-fated AE Daily News+ streaming service, will anchor the community’s 10 a.m. hour on Saturday. Christiane Amanpour, AE Daily News’s chief worldwide correspondent, will anchor the 11 a.m. hour. Mr. Blackwell will anchor AE Daily News’s 8 a.m. hour on Saturday adopted by Michael Smerconish at 9 a.m.
